Prepping for Arrowhead
At Embark we’re getting ready to support racers at the Arrowhead 135 checkpoint, and around here that calls for some serious arts and crafts time. With power tools. Here’s a behind the scenes peek into how we get things done around here.
When we were building our tiny house we ended up with some plywood of questionable quality. Although its not wall-worthy it made a great canvas!
Three generations at work. As soon as I could walk I was following my dad around with my little tool belt and plastic hammer. I graduated to power tools (with supervision) when I was about 5, and thirty-some years later Pops and I are still at it, this time with my own kiddo in tow.
When researching what to do for shelter in the seriously cold conditions of the Arrowhead, Pops mentioned his friend Butch had some canvas tents from the Rendesvous days of his youth. For Butch, his “youth” was likely when he was in his 60s. Eric built a frame from scraps and cut-offs from our neighbors at Oppen Works, and our “new” frame tent is ready to go!
We’re packing the van and heading North. Good luck to all the Arrowhead 135 racers- we’ll see you at Mile 111! Cheers!
